How to read the Altcoin Season Index
Crypto money tends to move in waves. New capital often goes to Bitcoin first, then flows into large altcoins such as Ethereum and Solana, and finally into smaller, riskier coins. The index measures where in that cycle the market is by asking one question: how many of the biggest altcoins have done better than Bitcoin?
A low reading with Bitcoin dominance rising means the market is defensive and Bitcoin is leading. A rising reading with dominance falling means money is rotating into altcoins. Readings near 50 usually mean coins are moving on their own news rather than as a group.

Is it altcoin season right now?
The 30-day Altcoin Season Index is 20 out of 100 (Bitcoin Season). 10 of the 50 largest altcoins have beaten Bitcoin's −6.44% over the last 30 days. That is Bitcoin season.
How is the Altcoin Season Index calculated?
Take the 50 largest cryptocurrencies by market cap, leave out Bitcoin, stablecoins and wrapped or staked copies of other coins, and count how many rose more than Bitcoin over the window. The share that beat Bitcoin is the index, from 0 to 100.
What counts as altcoin season?
By the common convention, 75 or higher: at least three in four large altcoins are outperforming Bitcoin. 25 or lower is Bitcoin season. Anything in between means no clear season.
Why 30 days and not 90?
The best-known version of this index uses 90 days, which changes slowly. Blockdeck uses 30 days so the reading reacts to rotations sooner, and shows a 7-day reading next to it. Expect our number to swing more than 90-day versions.
Is the index a trading signal?
No. It describes which coins have done better over a past window. Seasons can end abruptly, and the index does not forecast prices.
