How to read whale moves
A single transfer rarely moves the market by itself. What matters is the pattern: several large deposits to exchanges during a sell-off, or steady withdrawals while prices are flat. Exchanges also move coins between their own wallets, which we mark as internal so they do not look like buying or selling.
Stablecoin mints are worth watching too. New USDT or USDC usually lands on exchanges before it is used to buy. Pair whale moves with market sentiment and the Bitcoin price for context.
Whale alerts FAQ
What is a crypto whale alert?
A notice that a very large amount of crypto moved on a blockchain. Blockdeck records every transfer of $5.0M or more on Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tron, including ETH, USDT and USDC.
Where does the data come from?
Straight from the blockchains. Our servers read every new Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tron block and keep the large transfers. Nothing comes from a third-party alert service.
What does it mean when coins move to an exchange?
Coins sent to an exchange wallet are often about to be sold or used as collateral, so large inflows can add selling pressure. Large outflows usually mean coins are moving to long-term storage. It is a signal, not a rule.
What are stablecoin mints and burns?
When Tether or Circle issues new USDT or USDC it is minted; when they redeem it, it is burned. Big mints often come before fresh money enters the market.
How do you know a wallet belongs to an exchange?
We keep a list of publicly known exchange and treasury wallets. Wallets we cannot identify are shown as unknown wallets rather than guessed.
Is this investment advice?
No. Whale transfers show what happened on-chain. They do not tell you why, and they are not a buy or sell signal on their own.
